(Weekend Health Clinic) Some Q and A on Sugar
Q: Can I truly eat large amounts of proteins?
A: No, portion size is important; excess protein is converted into fat and can cause weight gain in some people
Q: What fruit juices are best to drink
A: Those that are unsweetened. Better are those that are freshly squeezed from the whole fruit. Best yes would be to eat the whole fruit itself. Fruit drinks and “sport drinks” are not acceptable as then have excessive amounts of added refined sugar.
Q: Is high-fructose corn syrup OK?
A: No, it is a high-glycemic sweetener (for now, just know that it is bad. Hopefully if I remember tomorrow, I will explain to you what that is.)
Q: What is happening that allows slim, middle-aged people to consume huge quantities of sugar or high-glycemic carbohydrates and not have it deposited as fat?
A: Some individuals have a higher metabolic rate and/or more muscle mass, which utilizes most consumed sugar as an energy source. Therefore, very little sugar remains for conversion to fat
