The Black Informant

African-American culture, news commentary, politics

I think we should pause on this one (UPDATE II)

UPDATE II: See below (near the end of this piece)

============

I had a couple of additional postings that I wanted to add today, but I think that we should pause on this issue that recently took place at Mifflin High School in Columbus, OH. Click below to read the post, follow the link to catch up on the story itself, and most importantly read and add your own comments on this issue.

Once again, OUR politics supersedes racial pride

One of my biggest concerns of this issue is how most black media, politicians, etc. with national attention have been somewhat mum on this issue (I cannot speak for all, but certainly most). This was not the case some years ago when a young girl by the name of Twanda Brawley claimed that she was raped by white police officers. Most if not all black media outlets covered the story (I was living in Jersey at the time so black stations in my area even went as far to give daily updates).

As I mentioned in one of my comments, MSM (Mainstream Media) does shoulder some of the blame of not giving more coverage to this issue (again, this would not have been the case if these boys were white). What I want to address here is why have WE, OUR MEDIA, OUR POLITICIANS have barely mentioned this issue. Besides providing some helpful and much needed news, why is it that OUR MEDIA will have gone all out of its way to cover a white-cop-kills-black-kid story and be virtually silent on issues like this one (no whites involved).

Two more things, please keep political persuasions out of this discussion. I could care less for either party. Also, try not to focus too much on what MSM is not doing. MSM has a proven track record of being a benefit to both sides of the political spectrum, so what they is or ain’t doing is of very little relevance here. What I do care about is our people and how we view and deal with self-inflicted crime.

Again, I am focusing on OUR MEDIA, OUR POLITICIANS, ACTIVISTS, ETC. on the national level.

You can add your comments to either this post or the one that I am referring to.

Later this evening, I will create a post that will highlight some of your comments. If you have a website, please include the link so I can include that as well.

UPDATE I: See what I mean–

BLACKNEWS.COM CIRCULATES VIDEO OF 5-YEAR OLD BLACK GIRL BEING UNNECESSARILY HANDCUFFED

Long Beach, CA - BlackNews.com recently partnered with CBS 10 in Tampa Bay to circulate the video of a 5-year old Black girl being handcuffed for no reason.

The girl did throw a tantrum, but appears to have calmed down when three white officers approach and handcuff her. Of course, after being handcuffed, she throws another tantrum. (emphasis mine)

======

Yes, this is a different story that is horrible in its own right; however, where is the video that depicts the outrage of the locals of Columbus, OH? Why ain’t WE circulating that?

UPDATE II: Wow! A second press release on the same story!!

Here is another press release distributed by blacknews.com:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 26, 2005

…Her temper tantrum was caused by her jelly beans being taken from her. What is appalling is the actions demonstrate perhaps one of society’s most pernicious evils - racism. A salient issue is whether a five-year old Caucasian girl been treated the same way.

======

I am just giving you an excerpt. As you can see, more outrage being amplified BY OUR PRESS about this child being handcuffed by the police (sorry, white police). As for the case of this special needs child being raped, nothing from this particular news service. I even sent them an e-mail asking why the “oversight”. So far, nothing.

***PLEASE NOTE - If you do not see your comment posted immediately, don’t worry. All comments on this site are sent to a queue where I eventually post the comment. I have to do it this way because of the enourmous amount of spam that I get on an almost hourly basis. The only time I will filter out a real comment is if there is name calling or by accident (whoops!).

It’s up to gangsters to break the cycle (By T. Bernard)

Very good article!!!

I’ll only give you excerpts.

=====

I am a 26-year-old African American male. I have been an active gang member since I was merely 8 years old and am the father of an 11-year-old son on the verge of closely following in my footsteps.

I write this in hopes of opening his eyes and the eyes of others to the recently reported racial tensions between African Americans and Hispanics that lead to melees of violence at Jefferson High School.

Behind the walls of California’s prison system there is a war for superiority and control. Drug trade and other forms of underground commerce are the basis for what goes on in prison in respect to racial warring. The ripple effect takes form and the hate streams back into the streets as people are released or as phone calls are made.

The fact of the matter is nobody gave a damn when it was inmates against inmates and gang members against gang members; nobody batted an eye when the dregs of society were simply doing the free world a favor and killing each other.

…Those who were at the root of the problem from its onset are not happy with the result of their negative activities. Men like me and youths like my son and others in all ages in between don’t want to be preached to by some community center leader; they don’t want some smiling-faced politician in telling them that there is a better way; and they really don’t want some celebrity patsy or over-exposed rapper telling them to stop the violence…more

Why Don’t the Amish Have Autistic Children? (Dr. Joseph Mercola)

A United Press International (UPI) reporter went out to search for autistic children in Lancaster County, the heart of Amish country in Pennsylvania. Based on national statistics there should have been as many as 200 children with autism in the community. Instead, he only found three.

One was a young girl who had been brought over from China, adopted by one family only to be given up after becoming overwhelmed by her autism, and then re-adopted by an Amish Mennonite family. The second definitely had received a vaccination and developed autism shortly thereafter. The reporter, however, was unable to determine the vaccination status of the third child.

A quote from the mother of the adopted autistic child speaks volumes: My husband just said last week that so far we’ve never met a family that lives a healthy lifestyle and does not vaccinate their children that has an autistic child. We haven’t come across one yet.

Folks, you don’t have to be a medical doctor, hold advanced epidemiology degrees or teach molecular genetics to figure this one out. You don’t even need a degree in rocket science. How much more obvious could it be?

Unfortunately, this is just another reminder that the link between autism and vaccines is certainly not new. In fact, many so-called experts have known about these links for more than a decade. Last year, a study I posted found children who received vaccines with thimerosal were 27 times more likely to have autism. Looking at the percentages, that’s a 2,700-percent increase in autism in those children who received unnecessary vaccines tainted with mercury.

If you’re a young parent weighing the pros and cons of vaccines, I strongly urge you to learn more about the toxicity of thimerosal, the mercury-laced preservative still present in many vaccines.

When will the public wake up?

grated rind of lime

1/4 teaspoon salt

Add rum. Mix well. Add salt, baking powder and cinnamon, sifted together. Mix. Add raisins.

Mix well. Pour this mixture into a greased pan and bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees) about 50 minutes, until done. Makes 8 servings.

From: www.caribcon.com

Instead of 340 calories, 12 grams of fat and 54 grams of sugar per serving, you get just 170 calories, 3 grams of fat and 27 grams of sugar…more

To make this even healthier, replace salt with sea salt. Also use raw sugar instead of the more widely used white sugar. Raw sugar will give it a slight hint of molasses taste.

Enjoy!!

Weekend Health Clinic: mo’ meat, mo’ problems

Eating too much Spam, hot dogs, sausages, red meat and pork can increase the risk of developing pancreatic cancer, according to University of Hawai’i researchers associated with the Cancer Research Center of Hawai’i.

However, more study is needed to determine what it is about meat — from processing methods to cooking — that is the cause, researcher Ute Nothlings said, adding it’s more likely that preparation techniques are the culprit rather than something contained within the meat such as fat or cholesterol.

By analyzing dietary data from 190,545 multiethnic people in Hawai’i and Los Angeles between 1993 and 2001, Nothlings saw an increased risk of pancreatic cancer among those who ate the highest levels of processed meat, red meat and pork. And she said that reducing one’s intake of all could reduce the cancer risk…more

Quick! Wanna know if you are at risk? Check this out:

The medical definition of “infrequent” bowel movements is “less often than once every three days.” Most physicians agree that a movement less often than once a week is not adequate….more

Grandma was very wise to give us that nasty Caster oil. We needed something to move that mess up out of us. Those that have infrequent bowel movements tend to get sick a lot easier.

As black folks, we know that a meal without meat just ain’t a meal. I am not going to tell you to chuck out all that beef chuck in yo’ freezer. Instead, try to incorporate more fruits and veggies in your diet. For example, at your next cook-out, try grillin’ up some mixed veggies (Red and green peppers, tomato, celery, zucchini, etc.). While they are cooking, brush some Catalina dressing over them periodically. I came up with this little concoction myself and I must say, it turned out very good. This is a good replacement for those chips you love to have with your hot dog or hamburger.

Once again, OUR politics supersedes racial pride

Accounts of the March 9 attack at Mifflin High School in Columbus sound like something out of Abu Ghraib. A group of boys took the girl behind a curtain on the auditorium stage, where one punched her in the face and threatened to have his friends beat her further if she cried out. Then at least two boys forced her to perform oral sex on them while others watched.

More than a dozen other students came running when they heard what was happening - not to help, but to watch. One is said to have recorded the assault with a video camera brought to school for a class project. He allegedly used the light from a cell phone to illuminate the scene. That means he had to be very close to what was going on. Other students viewed the assault from a window overlooking the stage.

The victim reported what happened to a special education teacher, who took her to the school office. There, school officials called her father, but not the police. The father later reported that administrators said they wanted to avoid media attention, and asked him not to call 911. He ignored them and called police…more

The above was an editorial, what follows is an excerpt of the actual news story:

Witnesses said several students saw a girl being punched and forced to engage in videotaped sexual acts with several boys in the Mifflin High School auditorium.

According to witness accounts given to school investigators, a 16-year-old developmentally-delayed student claimed she was dragged into the auditorium and was forced to perform oral sex on at least two boys, while more than a dozen other students were called to watch.

One student reportedly videotaped the sex acts, NBC 4’s Colleen Marshall reported.

“If you scream, I’ll have my boys punch you,” one student witness reported hearing an attacker warn the girl…more

Let me give you a hint: these boys and the school administration are not white.

Another report mentioned that when school officials walked in on the scene, this young girl was naked and a student was on top of her.

I normally do not blog on Saturdays, but this story really got me hot for several reasons:

# The mere fact that this girl was raped

#The mere fact that this special needs girl was raped

#WHERE ARE THE FATHERS OF THESE BOYS?????

#The attempt of the school administration to cover up the whole issue.

#The silence of teacher’s unions

#The lack of national outrage amongst most blacks

As we all know, had this been a case of a black girl being gang-raped by a bunch of white boys, all hell would have come loose amongst most black leaner-ship. Even groups like the NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, etc. would have called for a federal investigation into this matter. What is even more obvious is the fact that the media never identifies the race of the victim and the assailants. Normally, the media will go all out of its way to identify the race of individuals when it is a white-cop-kills-black-kid case. Why is race all of a sudden not relevant? If you think that I am about to break into a anti-Liberal-media-bias rant, think again. Mainstream media has already proven to benefit both sides of the political spectrum, so I do not concern myself with any political slant in this story.

What I am greatly concerned about is how we as a people have demonstrated over and over again our outrage against racism and destructive behavior when it comes from whites, Koreans, etc. But when it comes to stories like this case involving this child, most of us just skip over it while looking for the next white-cop-kills-black-kid case to use to bolster our claims of injustice in this country.

The more recent developments of this story mentions how community leaders are planing on getting together for (you guessed it) another summit to address the issues of violence in their community. In earlier days, I would have commend these individuals for trying to fix the problem. Today, I almost totally dismiss these actions as another way we use situations as a means to grandstand our own agendas. Granted, some summits do produce results, but a vast majority of them are nothing but show while the kids continue to shoot and rape each other in the streets. Holding the feet of Sharpton, Jackson and others on this case is pointless. It is time now for us (all of us) to shoulder the blame of these kind of incidents.

Until we adopt the mindset that these are OUR kids and not Bey-Bey’s kids, things like this will continue to happen while we continue to demand for justice in this country.

Weekly Wrap Up (Tupac Fo’ Sho’)

In an effort to further expand the views expressed on this website, I have asked black militant leader Tupac Fo’ Sho’ to report on the efforts of white people to take away the freedoms of black Americans.

======

Once again, racism has shown its ugly face—white face–to the masses this week.This week the Catholic church selected a white pope over a black one. If anyone out there was holding there breath on this one, you are probably black as me by now. There ain’t no way the racist system is going to have a black man have his ring kissed by millions of weeping white folks. Do you really think that Italian-owned establishments across America would have replaced their picture of Pope John Paul II with a black man? Puhleez.

Oh, and what’s up wit the black smoke/white smoke thing? Only true sojahs know who was really behind that smoke. It was that black Cardinal cookin’ up some pork on the grill while the white cardinals did the real work. Like I said, racism has once again shown its white ugly face this week to us my brothas and sistahs.

On another issue, I was glad to hear from militant-in-training D. Scales. Finally, a true brotha that is willing to stand up to this Uncle Tom (the owner of this site) and call him for what he is. He repeatedly called him a Neo-Con and told him he needed to read more. I was cheering this young buck on up until the gun issue. He believes that gun manufacturers should stop making guns because they are too dangerous for black folks. Another young militant-in-training has made me shame to be a black sojah today.

Scales is another example of how the racist system has eliminated all knowledge of our true history in this nation. Never once did he mention Bobby Seale and the Black Panther party in his argument with this clown. He also never mentions how commonplace it was for blacks in the old west and post civil war era carried guns. We are pilgrims in this evil white nation, son. As long as we are here, we need to use any means necessary to make sure that the evil pig does not infiltrate our communities, our homes, our schools, our kids, our intellect, our socio-economic power, our pride, our women, and the black man. Even brotha Malcolm believed in using guns. You have played right in the hands of the masters of this country by suggesting that our people are to remain defenseless against the plot to destroy black America.

Sorry I had to spank you sojah with my intellect, but you got me a little worked up on that issue. I just hate to see young sojahs misguided.

Keepin’ it real for the black nation,

Fo’ Sho’

PS: Name calling on this site gets you automatically banded.
