Gospel singer Ronald Winans dies at 48

Ronald Winans, a Grammy-winning member of the Winans gospel family who was part of the quartet The Winans, has died. He was 48.

Winans, who had suffered a heart attack in 1997, died Friday at Harper Hospital of heart complications, his family said. He had recently been admitted for observation, the family said, after doctors realized he was retaining fluid.

“The family wishes to thank everyone who joined us in prayer and will continue to extend their unwavering support during our time of loss”, BeBe Winans, one of Ronald Winans’ brothers, said in the statement.

I will have more on the history of this man and his family over the weekend.

Our prayers are with this family!

  1. I can remember years ago when my then teenage daughter, said, “mommy, you have to hear this group, the are awesome”. I listened and fell in love with these christian brothers. We are saddened to learn of the transition of Ronald, but we know that he is with the Lord. May God continue to watch over his family and keep them always in His care.

  2. Just like Jacksons - we felt we were or at least wanted to be part of their family (personally I wanted to be a spouse of one - didn’t matter which). That’s what the Winans did to millions, bridge the racial & age gaps. Remember that show when Oprah had them ALL on - “CLASSIC” . I say this, thank you for sharing your gifts of music & your family. “It’s gonna be alright”

  7. To Ron Winans,… Thank you very much for your words, songs and for allowing God to use you. You and your brothers sang a verse saying “We will never know all the souls that we have reached,…” I am writing to let you know you have reached this one. If it wasnt for your life and ministry of music, I would not have stayed in church and my grades in school would have suffered, and when my family split I would not have been encouraged. Thank you and as your brother Mike sang, I will always remember.
