I am a HUGE fan of VoIP (Voice over IP or Internet telephony—-BASICALLY, a phone you can use over the Internet[for all you plain-talkn' folks]). I have been using it for years. The service we use is Vonage. Below is a link to a post I did reviewing this service:
The cost savings is huge, however I would be a little leery using the service from a big phone company. With Vonage, there is only one small fee in addition to fixed price that we pay on a monthly basis (I think it’s about $25/mo–that is with local and long distance calling and all the other features that come with the service –even more than what your local phone company offers).
What I am really excited about is wireless VoIP:
Wireless VoIP can fill mobile coverage gaps
Hopefully if a third-party telephony company like Vonage can get into that game, we can also wave bye-bye to all of these dang cell phone fees as well as gain better coverage.
