LAPD will always be judged by 3 white police officers

This story has become a major issue in Los Angeles:

Raul Pena threatened both his wife and his teenage stepdaughter in the hours before he took his 19-month-old daughter hostage and both died during a hail of police gunfire, authorities said today.

The wife and stepdaughter had called 911 and asked for emergency police assistance, saying Pena had threatened them, LAPD Chief William Bratton said this afternoon at a press conference.

“She indicated he threatened to kill her, kill the baby, kill himself, and kill the mother,” Bratton said.

A combative Bratton expressed strong support for the 11 officers who stormed Pena’s business office in South Los Angeles on Sunday in what he said was an attempt to save the infant, Susie Lopez. Pena had used her as a shield, holding her in front of him as he fired at police, wounding one officer, police said.

“He’s a coldblooded killer, and it’s as simple as that,” Bratton said.

The police chief told reporters that it is “likely” that bullets fired by police officers killed both Pena and Susie. “That doesn’t change anything,” Bratton insisted, saying Pena’s erratic behavior was responsible for the tragedy. (more…)

Now of course anybody would have been sad to have seen this baby get shot (several of the police on the scene were in tears because they knew it did not have to go down like that. Do you think that the family would have been relieved that this man did not kill anybody else? Let’s see:

Meanwhile, Pena’s brother called a news conference to describe the family’s pain and lament that police weren’t more patient during the standoff.

“It’s been cruel what’s happened to my brother,” German Pena said. “They didn’t have any patience, none at all, knowing that my niece was with him, that he was a father. They should have acted with more patience.”

And of course the “community activists” are chiming in with the same accusations:

“The director of Project Islamic Hope, Naji Ali, says police should’ve been more patient…” (more…)

This is typical Naji Ali!

What really caught my attention to this story was that I noticed how this story spread almost like wildfire throughout the national media world. I also noticed how some black websites (who typically do not cover Los Angeles issues except when it is perceived that LAPD has done something wrong) also latched onto the story. Let’s face it, since the beating of Rodney King, the LAPD has left a bad taste in the mouth of blacks throughout the country. You can see this negative attitude in our videos, movies, and music.

What does not get as much publicity is the fact that since the Rodney King incident, the LAPD has implemented a lot of major changes to prevent something like that from ever happening again. Granted, they are still not perfect, but due to national pressure, they are certainly on the right track.

I remember watching LAPD investigating a noise complaint due to some party-goers getting out of hand. One of these officers was black. After encouraging the crowd to settle down, some of the party-goers (all of whom were black) began to taunt this black officer calling him “Uncle Tom” and “sell out”. An black officer in Florida pulled over a black woman for speeding in a residential area. She refused to coroporate with him. She called him a racist.

Let’s face it, regardless of the color of the officer, the moment he or she puts on that uniform, they have become “racist whites”. No matter what good an officer does, it will always be looked over in search for any wrongdoing he/she as committed against someone who is non-white.

What is also very amusing is that we will tell the world not to assume that every black man who wears his baseball cap to the side, and over-sized pants is a drug dealer, but then we turn right around and assume that every cop is a racist or has racist intentions REGARDLESS OF COLOR. Go figure! There is no need to wonder why major cities throughout the US are having trouble recruiting police officers.

If the family of Raul Pena did not want police intervention, then they should have never called them in the first place. Pena shot at police officers, threaten to kill his family, and place a baby in the line of fire. Yet despite all of this, LAPD are still viewed as the bad guys by the family.

Simply amazing!
