I have followed this story since day one.
In short, the idiot, drug taking father threatens his whole family with a gun, a family member calls 911, the police show up, repeatedly tell this father (who at this point was using his own baby as a shield) to drop his gun, dude shoots at police (one officer gets shot), police shoot back and unfortunately kill both the father and child.
Their reason for suing LAPD?
In the midst of bullets flying over them (LAPD), the police did not give negotiations enough time to surrender. In other words, not enough compassion for a madman.
Oh, I forgot to mention. The autopsy of the baby revealed a trace of drugs in her system.
WHAT????!!!!!
And of course RACISM was believed to be part of the reason.
The whole thing makes me tired. No need to wonder why it is getting more difficult to recruit more police officers.
What is even more insane is this neverending belief in our community that ALL police officers (regardless of color) have some sort of racist intent. No matter how many black officers are added to the force, they will always be looked upon as henchmen for the racist white man.
No thanks! Being a police officer is a job that I would not want.
Thank God for the people who still are willing to do the job.
