Man on the street–LA Black Biz Expo (UPDATED)
As usual, I am one of the last to know about the exact date of these events, but I still manage to get there somehow.
Here are some pics I took of the event on Saturday. on the side, I’ll provide information behind each pic followed by contact information (if I have it) and additional information on other businesses I came across.
#1. A wide shot of some of the exhibitions. What is not pictured is to the very far right there was a long stretch of black college alumni tables representin’.
#2. The Original Tee & Cue–Golf on one side, Billiards on the other. This is a concept founded by Clyde Beasley. I seen his personal testimony several times on television and it was great to finally meet this brotha. Because of the noise level, it was very hard to hear him (we were next to a DJ booth). I believe he told me that he has at least two major distributors and as I mentioned, he has been featured on national television. Check out his website here.
#3. Clyde Beasley
#4. This young lady was selling her first book entitled Answer Why for Meemee. Her name is Barbara Jean Satterfield. She is pictured with her parents. Unfortunately I am unable to locate contact information, but when I do get it, I will post it on this site.
#5. A close-up picture of her book.
#6. Goodz’ n’ thaHood–Represent what’s positive on your block. This is a pic of one of their representatives at their table. In addition to their own clothes line, they also highlight kids from throughout the LA area that excel in school by making them part of their advertisements. Check out the website! They even have some of the report cards of these great kids posted.
#7. My dream car! My, my, my! I saw this same car (Rolls Royce) on the streets in Beverly Hills not to long ago. Brotha was about to break his neck. Here is a link if you want the details. The sticker price on this car, uhh roughly $325K. Basically, a nice house on wheels.
Other stuff…
Kids Multiplication Motivation- I didn’t have cash on me at the time, but I was ready to snatch this one up for my kids. This is a CD/DVD that teaches kids — you guessed it– math with a hip hop twist. I have seen this idea done before, but the video is usually done at a very low grade and has that “were filming in the church basement and this is my cousin’ camera, so be grateful” look to it. From what I saw, the video looked very professional and would capture any kid’s attention. This link will give you more information along with some audio samples.
