As if Christian parents and others wary of the public and private school systems didn’t already have enough ammo to justify their self-determination of their children’s education, this latest report of liberal bias in the nation’s school adds gusto to their armory.

Bret Chenkin, a high school English and social studies teacher in Vermont, gave his class a vocabulary test that some claim is anti-Bush. The students had to pick the correct word out of two choices to give the sentence its correct meaning. More »

Quick tips on proper skin care

November 30th, 2005 | 3 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

To improve your complexion, you need to cleanse your skin every day. But not with just boring ol’ normal soap (it’ll dry out your skin); instead, you a soap formulated to interact favorably with the chemistry of your particular type of skin. All soaps work on filth by acting like a pair of handcuffs: one loop snags the oil; the other hangs on to the water and gets the grease off. This little cops ‘n robbers scenario plays out a little differently for different skin types: More »

Rose Rock
By Johanna D. Wilson

The Sun News

Rose Rock knew motherhood was a destination for her when she was yet Rosalie Tingman - a carmel-colored child growing up in Andrews, certain all of life’s lemons would be her sweet lemonade.

Her elders had packed tons of confidence into her, convincing her from the start that no goal was unattainable - especially not an endeavor she believed God gave her.

That’s right, the pretty little girl who often sported pigtails instinctively surmised she would be a mama to many long before (more…)

Had “Tookie” been a Klansman…

As I have been reading article after article on this issue, the one thing that came to mind was that this whole issue is further proof that we live in a world of double standards.

Now as a general rule of thumb, anytime I come across stories like this that are very emotionally-charged, one of things that I do is to formulate a “What if” scenario by using the same situation but with different characters (usually based on race or gender). This way I know that whatever opinion I may formulate about the issue, I know that I would at least be consistent. Trust me, this is not always easy especially when you are competing with your own initial emotional response, but I have always found it to be worth it in the end. More »

{Excerpt from wholehealthmd.com}

Early American physicians successfully applied crushed cranberries to tumors and wounds. They also used cranberries as a remedy for the age-old malady known as scurvy, a disease caused by a lack of vitamin C. It wasn’t too surprising, therefore, when modern scientists discovered that cranberries contain plentiful stores of this common antioxidant vitamin. More »

What is China up to these days?

I have noticed an increase of interaction between China and Africa. At first glance, the relationship sounds promising as China has been pouring money into African nations to help build much needed infrastructure and forgiving massive amounts of debt (roughly 1.3 billion US dollars). With all of that being said, the reality that China is still a communist nation with a very poor human rights record still lingers in the back of my mind. Here is a recent article that has me wondering about this venture: More »
