U.K. to “fiddy”: “Point yo’ gun elsewhere.”

50 Cent ad ‘glamorised’ gun crime
BBC
A poster of rapper 50 Cent holding a gun and a baby has been criticised for “glamorising” gun crime by the UK Advertising Standards Authority. The Get Rich or Die Tryin’ advert might be seen as condoning the use of weapons, the industry watchdog ruled.
The ad for his film soundtrack sparked 17 complaints from people saying it was irresponsible or offensive. (more…)
You may recall that not too long ago some black folks in the Los Angeles area took a similar stance against these same advertisements.
I would be curious to find out as to who was doing the complaining. Another news source says that roughly 17 filed a complaint with the UK-based advertisement watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority. The opposition in this scenario does not sound as grassroots as it was in Los Angeles.
What is true is that gun violence is a major deal in the UK as well. Here is a website that provides some information on this unfortunate trend: The Don’t Trigger Campaign
