Black Homeschool Groups and Organizations

February 25th, 2006 Posted in Uncategorized

Afrocentric Homeschoolers Association is a nonprofit resource for homeschooling families (and individual teens) everywhere in the world which are engaging in Afrocentric, Africentric, Black-oriented, Black-positive, African, African American or pro-Black education.
Based in Ontario, Canada, AHA has been operating since 1996. Our colors are purple (for the richness of our heritage), and yellow (for the sun in our skin and lives). Membership is free.

The African American Homeschoolers Network is an organization established for families seeking educational resources.   Founded by Meka Hunt and Akosua Magee in 2002, the network has grown consistently.  Resources for members include our list group. tons of information within the web site, and workshops and conferences on relevant topics.

African-American Unschooling is THE Internet resource for African-American Homeschoolers with an Africentric approach to learning all the time.
African-American Unschoolers encounter math, science, reading, writing, art and history in the Real World because real living leads to real learning!

The National African-American Homeschoolers Alliance began from a desire to unite African-American homeschoolers nationally. Launched in January 2003, NAAHA is a decidedly nonsectarian organization where all families’ religious values are appreciated and welcomed. In fact, we are the only nonsectarian organization for African-American homeschooling families. We think this is important because we want all of our information to be accessible to all families without a religious bias. We currently have members who are Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist as well as families who practice non-faith based home education.

The National Black Home Educators (NBHE) is a resource network founded by Eric and Joyce Burges in July 2000. This association will encourage, support and offer fellowship to families who are exploring benefits of home education. Eric and his wife, Joyce, have homeschooled for nearly l4 years.

Welcome to the H.E.R.I.T.A.G.E. Homeschooler’s website. Based out of Atlanta, GA, we are a Christian homeschool support group geared toward african- American families. This site is a forum for use within our group as well as a resource for minority families looking for information on homeschooling or simply needing support in their endeavors in home education. Feel free to browse around and contact us if we can help.

The mission of North Carolina African-American Homeschoolers is simple. We aim to provide a central point of community and resources for homeschoolers of color in North Carolina. We believe that it is important for home schooled African-American children to socialize with other children who are like them in order to create a community atmosphere and lasting friendships.

MinorityH.O.M.E (Minority Home Of Mommy Educators)
is a home schooling group for minorities who live in the Alpharetta & Roswell area of the North Fulton county in Georgia. Because of the frustration in finding a group that feels inclusive and comfortable to African Americans and other minorities in a predominantly Caucasian area, MinorityH.O.M.E attempts to provide an outlet for group play dates and field trips. A website is in the works!
