I’M THINKING of a cabal of radical legislators who don’t reflect the views of average Americans or even the interests of their own constituents. They use wedge issues, play the race card and push their party to the ideological extreme. They collude with outside activists, many of whom use religion as a Trojan horse for a radical political agenda.
Sound like those perennial paladins of villainy, the congressional GOP? Guess again. This is the Congressional Black Caucus.
The caucus lives in a fantasy in which it is the “conscience of the Congress.” Immune to the sort of scrutiny that many other groups receive, it has benefited from the soft bigotry of low expectations for decades. (more…)

What member of the CBC made a single young woman have a baby?
What member of the CBC made a young Black man commit a crime?
What member of the CBC made a young Black person drop out of school?
What member of the CBC made a young Black person take drugs?
What member of the CBC made a young Black man lay with a woman, create a baby, and then not support the baby?
What member of the CBC made a Black mother get on welfare?
What member of the CBC made a pregnant Black woman get an abortion?

None.
But when you call yourself the Congressional Black Caucus, you are claiming to represent the interests of the Black community. And if a bulk of your response to such issues it to blame Bush, the CIA, FEMA, Republicans, Conservatives—anything not in line with the Democratic party–they (the CBC) are out of step with many of the pressing issues in black America (the central theme of this article).
And remember, these are elected leaders not media appointed.

The interests of the CBC are political. The needs of the community are social.
Duane is right. As long as these people have “Black” in their name, the entire country sees their pronouncements as representative of the community. Their aim seems restricted to convincing themselves that all Republicans have “666″ tatooed on their foreheads.
Every time a Black conservative like Condi or Colin emerges, he is a de facto Oreo. The Caucus can ignore the senate race in MD, or the governor races in OH and PA because the Black guys involved are Republicans.
While they didn’t cause the illegitamacy problem, they sure as hell aren’t doing anything to deplore what has happened. Where are their solutions?
These caucuses are formed to address issues and work on legislation that addresses the issues. The community has plenty of issues for these guys to address. They have failed to do anything positive.

They are elected leaders of their respective districts and in one case, state.
You can claim they represent Black America. They can claim the same thing. Personally, I really don’t care. But if, general, you are going to say they are leading Black people astray, or are making Blacks dependent on government, or something of that line, then back it up.
The questions I asked, quickly, put that line of thinking where it belongs; the garbage.

Fact: Rush Limbaugh regularly states that ALL conservatives are labeled as racists, or bigots, or sexists, or homophobes.
Conservatives pointing out Black conservatives in particular for the rough treatement they receive is nothing but special treatment.
The Caucus can ignore the senate race in MD, or the governor races in OH and PA because the Black guys involved are Republicans.
That makes no sense at all.

Yes, in many cases where there is a high precentage of blacks where they will in turn use that to speak for all the blacks in America.
You can claim they represent Black America. They can claim the same thing. Personally, I really don’t care.
What you or I care about doesn’t matter here. They assert themselves as spokespersons for the black community everytime something “bad” goes down within the communtiy–let’s not get into using tax dollars in many cases to do so. That issue in of itself goes beyond the boarders of their districts.

It appears that you are trying to make the point that me, this guy that wrote the article, and then somehow you will probably suggest all Conservatives are suggesting that groups like the CBC are responsible for the problems in the black community. Nonsense!
Again.
When a person claims to represent the interests of any group only to blame someone else for just about all of the self-inflicted problems, that person/persons has failed at their post of leadership and no longer speak for the group–they just use the group to further their own personal causes. Again, the difference between a Maxine Waters and Al Sharpton is that Waters is elected by the people and will use tax dollars to claim to represent the “whole” of the black community.
We as black folk/white folk/just folk are responsible for our own actions. But when you have a group that claims to represent their interests, and doesn’t, that group needs to sit down.

Let me make this plain the cbc is out for one thing and one thing only…power.
They go in the hood.
They want to keep black kid in dead schools.They know what a good education will wake them up.
