One spicy sistah
I caught this bit of info via the Food Network.
Out here on the west coast, “chips and salsa” is one of the common delicacies. There is good salsa and there is the other crap that is usually salted to death. On the show “Food Finds” (hosted by another sistah), there was a segment that featured a woman that goes by the name of “Mama Vega”. Her story was very inspiring as she talked about how she got into her very successful business of selling her homemade salsa. I never tried it myself, but I will be on the hunt for it within the next two days. In the meantime, let’s show her our support.
From her “Meet Mama Vega” page:
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit this website to learn more about my delicious, fresh, authentic, all natural, wholesome, no preservatives, vine ripened tomatoes salsa (Mama Vega’s Salsa).
Behind every successful man is a woman. Mama Vega attributes her success to her life partner, the man behind her. She calls him her silent “not-so-silent partnerâ€Â. Mama Vega insists every woman has that tendency to wander from the target occasionally especially if it looks “cuteâ€Â, “pretty†or is “on saleâ€Â. Her man keeps her focused on the “bottom lineâ€Â. His business expertise has proven in the past and continues to be invaluable although, Mama Vega has her own unique way of implementing his business advice.
As a former educational specialist/behavioralist and advocate for children with NO business background, Mama Vega often relies on her skills and techniques used for behavior modification of her students and sometimes applied to her five children. With this in mind, she does not always adhere to the traditional business model of business operations. She says this works well in many aspects, but when it comes to numbers, projections and a business plan there is no variation, it is what it is, “traditionalâ€Â.
Mama Vega has had to learn business jargon, accounting and manufacturing programs as well as web design basics. She says marketing is the easiest for her because that is not any different than teaching or marketing information to her students. The techniques employed are basically the same.
According to Mama Vega, she gets an idea and decides how to make it a reality. She does not follow or copy others, but chooses to lead and compete with herself. She says Vega is the brightest star in the constellation Lyra and was once thought to have been the North Star to lead the way. She says that is how she perceives her salsa, it is to lead the way and set the standard for freshness.
Mama Vega still has the desire to teach and with her getting so many e-mails asking for advice or assistance, she plans to put together easy to read books for the nonbusiness everyday person. That is when time permits and she has someone to “chop, shop slice and dice those fresh vegetable to bring you some of the freshest salsa available.â€Â
