Does democracy exist in Africa? Do we care?

Do African issues non-race related interest us as black Americans? While you think on that question, check out these excerpts from an article that appeared in the Washington Post.

Joseph Kony

Leader, Lord’s Resistance Army, Uganda

For nearly 20 years, the 45-year-old Kony has led a guerrilla paramilitary group known as the Lord’s Resistance Army, claiming to cut off the lips and ears of those who refuse to acknowledge him as their divine leader. Kony’s principal targets are civilian villages, where his army hacks to death the adults and abducts the children. Most LRA captives are between the ages of 11 and 16. Young males are trained for combat, and girls are used as sex slaves and beasts of burden. Kony’s rituals include elements of Christianity, Islam and black magic. Some 200,000 people have died. Black Banking–Questions 4 U

May 2nd, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Black-owned banks historically have always played a significant role in the black community. With the fierce competition in the banking industry, are black-owned banks still the bank of choice in the black communty? Here are some other questions worth pondering:

  1. Do you currently use the financial services of a black-owned bank?
  2. Have you ever used a black-owned bank in the past?
  3. Are you aware of the services offered by black-owned banks? Do you find them to be competitive?

My thoughts

As I think about this subject, I am wondering just how much black-owned banks are needed. Before I continue, NO I am not suggesting that these banks just disappear (relax). Obviously someone is using More »

More taxpayer money wasted in Phoenix public schools

May 2nd, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

“For decades, Roosevelt Elementary School District has served as south Phoenix’s economic engine.
In a low-income, minority community, it provided scarce and coveted neighborhood jobs to teachers and principals, as well as custodians, cooks, teaching assistants and secretaries.
Over the years, however, its role as provider has led to overspending and patronage, accompanied by sloppy bookkeeping and poor projections of available cash, state and district officials say. Conflicts arose often between Blacks, once a majority in the area, and Latinos, whose numbers are growing.”
< ...>
“Roosevelt doesn’t lack for money. It spent $7,620 per student to operate its schools in the 2004-05 school year, an annual state funding report showed. That is $1,315 more than the Maricopa County district average and $1,064 more than the state average.
It has benefited from federal and state grants, rising property values and a jump in the property taxes it levies.

“It would be the greatest mistake, certainly, to think that concessions mean peace. Nothing of the kind. Concessions are nothing but a new form of war.”

“The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.” ~Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

UPDATE: A day of protest? Or a day of ignorance? Click here to know the full history behind the politics of May Day.

If you think that May 1st is a random day that was chosen by the pro-ILLEGAL immigration crowd, think again. “May day” as it commonly called is a day widely recognized as a time of commemoration for the socialist and communist agenda.
