Researching Black history just became easier

(AP) - Gov. Tim Kaine Thursday unveiled a new program that will make it easier for black Virginians to trace their family histories.

The Virginia Freedmen Project will digitize over 200,000 images and records collected in the years after the Civil War.

Kaine says the program is the equivalent for African Americans of Ellis Island’s records being put up. (more…)

Much of my family history can be traced to the Carolinas (mainly North Carolina). Hopefully the other southern states will not be much further behind.
