Question: Do Blacks have to work twice as hard to be successful?

This is a question that came to mind as I was driving yesterday afternoon. Most of our parents told us that working double time was the path that all of us had to take if we wanted success in our field of choice.

Do you find yourself working twice as hard as your White counterparts?

  1. Most definitely. As long as there are negative beliefs about Black people, we’ll always have to work twice as hard as our White counterparts. With being a Black woman you have to work even harder to prove that you’re fully capable & have earned your place legitimately.

  3. Yes. But it is better if you can arrange to have a Black employer (yourself).

  4. Do Blacks have to work twice as hard as Whites to be successful? No.

Do we have to work harder than Whites to be acknowledged? Yes.

Should we have to work harder than Whites to be recognized? No.

I don’t know if I work harder than my White counterparts. I’d like to believe I work smarter than most, not as smart as a select few.
