African American ex-computer hacker designs service to fake caller ID (PR)

This sounds like a really neat idea, but placed in the wrong hands…yikes!

There’s nothing BUT the wrong hands. If you won’t own who you are, you’ve got NO BUSINESS interrupting other people at home.
If someone “evades paying you money they owe” either use the appropriate legal services to collect it lawfully, or own that you, personally, blew it, and write the money off to charity.
Law enforcement doesn’t need this tool - they already have the ability, the power, and the right to accomplish the same results.
And it may block caller ID, but it doesn’t block the callee reporting you as a harassing call - which bypasses this device and traces it to the actual physical phone line and its assigned number. So maybe we SHOULD encourage the lawless to use it - they’ll be rounded up and stopped quicker.
Aside from that, it’s pretty much illegal for a civilian to use this device anyway.

I agree with Bevan. The use of this product is in the very least RUDE if not morally questionable.

Maryland is going after this and other such services, believing that it is illegal. People have used it in Maryland for stalking purposes and phishing.

This product is one that should be illegal and taken off the market. Anything used to disguise and misrepresent yourself or company is unethical.
