I know some of y’all were out there thinking it.
Don’t worry, this is not one of those posts where the question “Where’s Al & Jesse now?” is asked. Frankly, I hope the both of them stay out of it.
As of the time of this writing, authorities have not yet decided to treat this as a hate crime. However, according to the victim (Sarah Kreager), she and her husband were called “white crackers” and “white m-f-ers”. On the other side of this mess, the 9 kids involved claim that she spat on them (which according to them started the beat down) doesn’t seem to be holding up to authorities based on what they know so far.
Remember when I said to you “Be careful of what you wish” regarding hate crimes? This kids may be too young to be tried as adults, but they could be looking at a judicial process that will not be as lenient based on all the noise generated over race-based crimes.
While this one particular case is very serious, my hope is that all the racial vitriol that will be flying over this will not drown Baltimore’s bigger problem of black homicides (as of Friday, there has been 269 homicides this year). In the meantime, whoever is responsible should get the book thrown at them.
Meanwhile, just sit back and watch how this will quickly evolve into a liberal vs. conservative issue.
