Moving back the goal post

I thought Cobb brought up a very good point regarding the recent Florida primary and the fact that their delegates currently do not count:

“So what does it mean? It means that the Democrats have 210 delegates in its pocket which it can arbitrarily use at its convention without any regard for the way people actually voted in Florida. Think about that for a while.”

Remember all the references to Jim Crow when it was believed that the GOP was suppressing the Black vote?

  1. I think it’s actually weak for a very good reason: parties control their primary process. The local parties broke the wishes of the national party so they punished the local party.

If the delegates wind up counting at the end, then Cobb’s point is valid.

  2. On the contrary, his point is valid on both fronts. Regardless of the actions of the Democratic party on the state level, votes may not be counted towards the preferred candidate. This may be a different situation, but the issue is still the same.

Bottom line, Democrats chose Clinton in that state so those delegates should go to her if they decide to count them at the election. But it those delegates are a make or break it for Obama and they still go to Clinton, there will be hell.
